Objective:
The objective of a rain screen wall is to prevent rain penetration. Rainwater can penetrate the wall of a building in any of the following ways: Direct Entry, Gravity Flow, Capillary Action, and Air Pressure Difference. While all four are important, the first three have been dealt with extensively in the design of the cladding system. Air pressure difference is the most significant and is discussed below.


Conditions:
For wind driven rain to penetrate , three conditions must exist:

1.)There must be water on the surface of the wall,
2.)There must be an opening through which water and air can pass,
3.)There must be a force (the wind) to push the water through the opening
